We are looking for a motivated, positive, and solutions focused individual with planning and emergency management experience for a permanent, full-time role as a Senior Advisor, Planning to join our team based in central Tauranga. 

You will develop, implement, monitor and report on key strategies and plans to enable the CDEM Group to deliver on its obligations under the Bay of Plenty Civil Defence Emergency Management Group Plan. 

Te āhuatunga a te tūranga | About the role

Reporting to the Manager, Planning, this role has a focus on creating and delivering strategic plans, critical planning for regional and local hazards and risks, and building cross sector relationships through collaboration and networking.

The role of Senior Advisor, Planning is challenging and varied with responsibilities that include:

• Leading the development, scoping, and delivery of high-quality strategic plans.
• Establishing and maintaining close working relationships with internal and external contacts including but not limited to; local authorities, emergency services, central government agencies, non-government organisations, Māori, and scientific community.
• Maintaining critical situational awareness and leading the development of emergency plans before they are needed.
• Representing EMBOP at the local, Regional, and National level.
• Supporting a response during an emergency.
  

Ō pūmanawa | Your skills and experience

The skills and personal attributes we are looking for are:

• Minimum of 5-6 years’ relevant technical experience in emergency management or related field such as project management, hazard and risk.
• Demonstrated experience in relevant project and/or programme management.
• Demonstrated critical thinking, project planning, delivery and monitoring, hazard/risk planning, and report writing experience.
• High level of computer literacy (including word processing, presentations, spreadsheet and project management applications).
• High level of oral and written communication skills.
• Experience working positively and collaboratively within a team and building external working relationships.
• Knowledge of the Civil Defence Emergency Management (CDEM) Act 2002, National Disaster Resilience Strategy and the National CDEM Plan Order 2015 is desirable.

The Bay of Plenty Civil Defence Emergency Management Group is established under the Civil Defence Emergency Management Act 2002 and the members of the Bay of Plenty Civil Defence Emergency Management Group are, the Bay of Plenty Regional Council, Kawerau District Council, Ōpōtiki District Council, Rotorua Lakes Council, Tauranga City Council, Western Bay of Plenty District Council and Whakatāne District Council.
