Te āhuatunga a te tūranga | About the role

This full time, fixed term role involves working with members of the Communications Team, and the wider Strategic Engagement Group, to support organisational service delivery that aligns with the Long Term Plan and associated priorities of the CE and Leadership Team.

Our preferred candidate will have a sound knowledge of the full communications spectrum, from strategy development to social media implementation, and everything in-between. They will be someone who thinks and works proactively, to find pragmatic solutions and provide high-quality communications support on a daily basis.   Being a member of the Communications Team means you’ll be working with people from all walks of life, who have a variety of different skillsets and backgrounds. You’ll also be exposed to many different parts of local government, making this a great space to learn and develop your skills.   

This role is suitable for someone with two to three years’ experience in communications and has ideally been in a similar communications role before. This role is based in our Tauranga office, however, the nature of the work may require you to travel around the region, and be based out of our other offices (Rotorua and Whakatāne). 

Ō pūmanawa | Your skills and experience 

To be successful in this role, you will have:
  • A relevant Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Journalism or a related field.
  • At least two to three years’ experience in communications, public relations, marketing or similar.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Clean copy is a must.
  • An understanding of common communications tools, such as social media, e-newsletter platforms, website, media booking etc.
  • Confidence working with external stakeholders, including other communications professionals, community organisations, groups and businesses.
  • Experience working with media, both local and national.
  • The ability to be agile and adaptive, and meet deadlines.
  • The ability to travel around the region as / when required for the role.
  • A positive, solutions-focused attitude, and the ability to work as part of a team.

Experience working in Emergency Management, specifically in the Public Information Management (PIM) function, would be an advantage, but not a requirement.

The salary range for this fixed-term role is between $83,627 and $98,385 per annum. Appointment will be offered within this range dependent on the skills and experience of the successful candidate.  

This role is located in Tauranga.
