We are looking for a dynamic and self-motivated Assistant Accountant to join our Finance team in this permanent and full-time role. The ideal candidate will have experience handling account reconciliation, responding to queries from other parts of our organisation and completing GST and FBT returns. We are looking for a candidate who is proactive, has strong attention to detail, a solid understanding of generally accepted accounting principles and excited to work in this fast-paced environment.

Te āhuatunga a te tūranga | About the role

Reporting to the Financial Accounting Team Leader and working closely with the other accountants, candidates will provide additional support in responding to audit queries. The role is responsible for a wide range of duties which include:

  • Assisting with day-to-day operations of the Finance team, that include monthly journals and month-end reconciliations
  • Completing daily bank reconciliations and other treasury tasks
  • Fixed asset accounting
  • Prepare GST and FBT returns
  • Collaboration with other teams to ensure accurate financial information
  • Providing assistance in our Annual Report and Long Term Plan projects

Ō pūmanawa | Your skills and experience

The skills and personal attributes we are seeking for the role are listed below: 

  • Bachelor of Commerce degree,
  • Proven ability to identify problems and use initiative to find solutions,
  • Experience in month-end processes (including journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations and doing statutory returns)
  • Knowledge of asset accounting and maintaining fixed asset registers
  • Experience with TechOne would be an advantage.  

The successful candidate will be highly motivated and organised, reporting and contributing to the effectiveness of the Bay of Plenty Regional Council.
