Good public transport opportunities can make a real difference to the quality of life of those in our communities. We are looking to employ a Senior Transport Planner who will take a leading role in planning and implementing effective public transport strategies for our region. A particular priority of this role is to support the transport planning work programme with financial analysis and decision making. Te āhuatunga a te tūranga | About the role
In this role you will:
- Provide critical input and advice in relation to policy, frameworks, guidance and processes to enable robust decision making by transport policy makers
- Provide system thinking and thought leadership in relation to financial/investment decision making within the Transport team
- Maintain a high level of technical knowledge, including legislative and funding requirements, and national policy issues, trends and initiatives
- Provide leadership in policy development projects or programmes
- Establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with external stakeholders, particularly our city and district council transport partners and NZTA.

We are looking for a team player who is passionate about using their skills to make a difference. The qualifications and key skills we are looking for are:
- A relevant Bachelor’s degree and several years of post-qualification experience in transport planning and/or policy
- Transport and/or financial modelling experience
- A valid driver’s licence
- A broad understanding of the social, economic, cultural and environmental characteristics of the Bay of Plenty region
- Demonstrated leadership qualities
- Strong oral and written communication skills
