We’re looking for a skilled, and motivated Works Coordinator to lead the planning and delivery of river and drainage maintenance operations that support safe, resilient communities and a healthy environment.
Te āhuatunga a te tūranga | About the role
As a works coordinator, you will be:
- Coordinating and supervising contractors and field teams on river and drainage works.
- Leading restoration projects including stream clearing, erosion protection, riparian planting, and pest management.
- Building strong relationships with landowners, iwi, contractors, and other stakeholders.
- Supporting and developing a high-performing team of operators and foremen.
- Ensuring all work complies with environmental and health & safety standards.
Ō pūmanawa | Your skills and experience
We are looking for someone who will bring:
- A good understanding of river control, drainage, and pumping station operational and maintenance works.
- Sound, practical experience in the use of specialised heavy machinery, excavators and weed cutter boats.
- Proven experience in rivers and drainage maintenance works, fencing, aquatic herbicide application, emergency pumping operations, tree maintenance, and operating and maintaining chainsaws.
- Knowledge of chemical spray applications.
- Strong leadership and experience in leading teams undertaking operational works.
- Flexibility to work outside normal hours and under pressure during emergency and flood response operations.
- Monitoring of works progress in alignments with deadlines
- Sound practical experience with Health and Safety work practices.
- At least 7 years’ experience in civil engineering or environmental earth moving projects.
- Practical knowledge of mechanical machinery, drainage systems, and flood pumping equipment.
- Excellent communication and conflict resolution abilities.
- NCEA Level 2, GrowSafe Applied Certificate, Traffic Controller status, and a full driver’s licence.
- A passion for environmental sustainability and community wellbeing.

This role is located just outside of Tauranga in Kaituna (Paengaroa).
