Emergency Management Bay of Plenty is seeking a passionate and experienced Advisor to join our team.
Te āhuatunga a te tūranga | About the role
Reporting to the Manager, Planning this role serves to deliver on the Bay of Plenty CDEM Group vision and is to provide support to the development, implementation and monitoring and reporting of the Bay of Plenty CDEM Group Plan, the Bay of Plenty CDEM Group Annual Plan and supporting CDEM Group Plans.
The role has two distinct modes of operation; a business-as-usual component that focuses on relationship management, collaboration and planning for different types of emergencies, and a response component, that operates in a high stress environment implementing previously rehearsed procedures and rapidly responding to the unfolding needs of an emergency.
As an Advisor, Planning you will also fulfil a role as a Duty Manager, on a roster system, to provide 24/7 situational awareness and acted for Bay of Plenty CDEM Group as initial contact in the case of an incident or potential incident.

You will thrive in this role if you enjoy applying your technical planning and emergency management expertise to make a meaningful contribution to the Bay of Plenty Civil Defence Emergency Management Group. We are looking for someone with strong critical-thinking, planning, monitoring, and report-writing skills, particularly in the context of natural hazard management.
You will bring a reputation for delivering high-quality work, along with the proven ability to build and maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders. Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities are essential. EMBOP operates in a highly dynamic environment, where our work can change direction quickly. Adaptability, agility, resilience, and curiosity are important attributes—both in day-to-day work and when transitioning in and out of emergency response. A recognised tertiary qualification relevant to emergency management is required, along with 3–4 years of experience in policy and/or planning, risk management, and/or hazard management.Ko wai mātou | Who we are

We actively contribute to the region’s response capability across all CDEM Emergency Centres, and you will have the opportunity to add your piece to this critical function.
